Match review

It’s always a good game when we play Calm 84 FC, and this one didn’t disappoint.

First-half

CAFC started off the stronger of the two sides and were rewarded for their early pressure with a goal scored by Scott Carter, who finished well from close range following a corner.

Things were heating up though, with both teams putting in some strong challenges, showing that although the game is for charity, both sets of players are always competitive and want to win. With 30 seconds left on the clock, and tempers flaring, the referee decided to blow for halftime early, in an attempt to calm things down.

Half-time score: CAFC 1-0 Calm 84 FC

Second-half

After a quick chat with the captains from both teams, the second half kicked off, with the agreement that both sides would take things a little easier.

CAFC made a change at the beginning of the second half, bringing Paul ‘El Capitano’ Fletcher out of goal and into defence. A rare lapse in concentration saw Fletch give away a penalty after he misjudged Calm 84 FC’s play. No mistake from the Calm 84 penalty taker who made it 1-1.

The remainder of the game was like a tennis match. Richard Eyes scored to make it 2-1 to CAFC, Calm 84 equalised, then Jordan Coles scored putting us 3-2 up with 25 minutes to go.

CAFC thought they had a 2 goal cushion when Jordan ‘The GOAT’ Coles slotted the ball past the Calm 84 keeper, but his goal was ruled offside, rightly or wrongly – without VAR, who knows?

This sprung Calm 84 into life, and with 20 minutes left, Calm84 were awarded a free kick within shooting distance. Millsy got a strong hand to a well-hit free-kick but couldn’t keep it out, 3-3.

Not content with a draw, Calm 84 pushed for a winner and were rewarded in stoppage time with a late winner.

Final score: CAFC 3-4 Calm 84 FC

Man of the Match

Our man of the match was Marcell Edwards – strong performance at the heart of the defence and kept the team going.
