Match review
Sunday 10 September saw us take on Military Minds FC at the Grange Playing Fields. We welcomed back Dan Buckley, Kev Smart, Robbie Morre, and Lewis ‘Wingman’ Williams to the match-day squad.
First-half
Military Minds FC is a team we have played previously, and the result last time out was a 2-2 draw, so we were cautious from the start.
Both teams created chances and were passing the ball well, but CAFC took the lead after a through ball from Jordan was dummied by Coops, and found its way through to Dan Buckley, who slotted past the keeper.
It wasn’t long before it was 2-0, with Jordan the architect again, this time his through ball found Coops who attempted a chip over the goalkeeper, which was going in, but an MMFC defender cleared off the line but the ball landed back at Coops’ feet, for him to blast home at the second time of asking.
A third was added in a dominant spell for CAFC, after Robbie Morre made a run down the left wing, and produced a pin-point accurate cross to find Coops, who controlled the ball well and then calmly placed the ball into the MMFC net.
Half-time score: CAFC 3-0 MMFC
Second-half
CAFC came out of the blocks quickly in the second half, and a superbly weighted pass from Mark Eyes, found Jordan Coles, who skillfully beat the centre-back, before shooting past the MMFC goalkeeper to make it 4-0.
This sparked MMFC into life, and they were rewarded after a 10-minute spell of attacking play with a goal of their own off a well-worked corner. Was there a comeback on the cards?
CAFC’s response was to quickly restore their 4-goal-lead. Dan Buckley went on a mazy run and delivered a neat pass to Robbie Moore who finished clinically.
Lewis ‘Wingman’ Williams made it 6-1 after a mistake from the MMFC defense gave Lewis an open goal, which he made no mistake with. Lewis added his second of the game after a penalty was awarded, which he stepped up to take and place past the keeper.
Final score: CAFC 7-1 MMFC
As always, it’s not about the result, it’s about playing in the right spirit and raising money for charity.
A huge ‘thank you’ goes to the Military Minds player who won the football card and donated his winnings to the cause.
Also a big ‘thank you’ to all our sponsors, players, and the Greenbank Hotel for providing everyone with a well-earned sausage and chips buffet afterward.
Man of the Match
Our man of the match was Dan Buckley.
