Match review

This was our first time playing against Get Together After Serving (GTAS), who help aid Military Veterans and communities with their mental and physical well-being. Find out more about GTAS and the great work they do on the GTAS facebook page (external website).

This game saw Cam Coles making a return in goal. At the back were familiar faces in Scott Carter, Will ‘big willy’ Brace, Stu Burgess, and, with a complete switch of positions, usual goal-maestro-Marco completed the back four.

The midfield trio was unchanged from our last game: Mark Eyes, Jordan Coles and Richard Eyes, and the front three were Jamie Goncalves, a rare cameo from Ash, and our 1-game loanee from GTAS 1st team, Cam.

First-half

The majority of this CAFC squad has played the last 5 or 6 games together and are really starting to gel. However, it may have been the earlier kick-off time, but we were slow out the blocks and quickly found ourselves 1-0 down, which seems to be a habit of ours at the minute.

But, it wasn’t long before we were level after Jamie Goncalves scored for the 3rd game in row. A wonderful ball by Richard Eyes left Jamie one-on-one with the keeper, and he calmly slotted the ball home for the equaliser. The other Eyes’ brother in the squad didn’t want to be left out either, and after a rebound from a corner, Mark Eyes blasted us in front from 20 yards out.

Half-time score: GTAS 1-2 CAFC

Second-half

The second-half started with CAFC on top, and Mark Eyes was looking to out-do his brother, played Jamie through on goal for his second of the game, which gave us a two-goal cushion.

After being a nightmare all-match for his home club’s 3rd team, our 1-game loanee, Cam, got his well-deserved goal with a thunderous strike to put the game out of reach for GTAS.

With 20 minutes to go, Jordan ‘the GOAT’ Coles dropped into the back four to let Marco have a run in midfield, and it wasn’t long before he got his name on the score sheet. GTAS never gave up though and got a late consolation goal.

Final score: GTAS 2-5 CAFC

Man of the Match

For the second game in a row, our man of the match was Jordan ‘the goat’ Coles, who played some brilliant passes and was always a threat when pressing with the ball.
